Tapu School ... Where thinking and learning are fun ...

Recently the Senior class at Tapu School spent a day with "Future Te Aroha " whose purpose is to promote learning programmes for the community and cultural activities for schools.

The programme they designed for the Tapu children involved making a short film.

During the day the children became familiar with the script which was designed by the director of the film, Jo Killen and Tapu School Principal, Spencer Baty. They were coached in their various roles, dressed in appropriate costumes, made up and directed on the set created at Future Te Aroha by the staff there. One Tapu student Jayden Houia was trained in operating the high quality video camera   and under the watchful eye of the technical expert from the centre filmed sections of the production. Two children were given the opportunities and trained to be prompts.

Spencer Baty says "the children were highly motivated by the day and in the end have produced a film we can show back at school once the editing has been completed. For us this was real, authentic learning. The children now have a fine appreciation of the various strategies used to create a film.
