Tapu School ... Where thinking and learning are fun ...
GRAND PARENTS' DAY
It was fantastic to see over thirty grand parents at Tapu School's Grandparents' morning on last Friday. They thoroughly enjoyed their morning with the children.
The grandparents were welcomed to the school with a powhiri at which Principal Spencer Baty spoke with the guests about being grandparents and invited them to observe the children at work in their classrooms.
Former Tapu School pupil and grandparent Ray Russek replied on behalf of the grand parents and encouraged the children to make the most of the wonderful opportunites they are getting at the school.
The principal took the visitors on a tour of the school pointing out the popular Marine Academy, and the school Information Centre in the original school building which is now over 128 years old.
The Grand parents then visited classrooms where they observed programmmes in action, looked at the children's work and were interviewed by the children as part of their study " School Life in our Grand Parents' time" - a study of time, continuity and change.
The school then joined together and presented three items to the Grand Parents before a shared morning tea. It is intended to hold Grand Parent mornings every second year.
