OUR CLASSROOM AND OUR LEARNING
'We want our children to become life-long learners growing into confident, self-motivated and responsible New Zealand citizens, not just while they are with us but as they journey through their lives.'
Our classroom is a multi-level class catering to students from New Entrants to Year 8. Just as you would have a variety of different levels and learning occurring in a class of students from one level, we cater for our students in the same way, with a mixture of group and individual programmes, focusing on the needs of each student. Our older students can support and model for the younger ones and the in turn get the younger students benefit of observing students working on more challenging tasks to help build their confidence moving forwards.
With our younger students the focus begins with developing understandings around routines, behaviour expectations and developing a positive attitude towards learning. They are introduced to learning with a balance of play based learning and more formal leaning opportunities that cover the different curriculum areas. In addition to teaching staff the students are supported by a teacher aide who helps with reinforcing aspects of work covered during class time. As students move through the years they are encouraged to become more independent with their work and to begin having a more active role in setting their learning goals. All students have access to digital devices that help support their learning.
Our aim at Tapu School is to give our students a solid foundation in Literacy and Numeracy while involving them in all aspects of the New Zealand Curriculum. We want them to become life-long learners growing into confident, self-motivated and responsible New Zealand citizens, not just while they are with us but as they journey through their lives.
